In My Mailbox (August 29th, 2010)

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren (inspired by Alea of Pop Culture Junkie) and explores the content of your mailbox.

This will likely be my last IMM for the next 3-4 weeks (unless I get a chance to visit a bookstore next weekend – let’s hope people!) as I might be moving from the UK for a while.  I really do want to stay in London (*hugs city*) but I might be getting a great job on the continent.  SO… that means less compulsive book buying from my favourite second hand stores and more measured, thought-out purchases online.  *rolls eyes*

Anyhow, here’s what I got this week!  ALL of these were found in second hand stores, so I think I spent £10?  Bargain.

Was very excited about my copy of Storm Front!  With 15+ books in the series, finding the first one on sale was tough!

Also, dear dear Forbidden Planet, what was with the lack of Sirantha Jax series?  Awesome science fiction that you have… zero copies of?  Hell, even Foyles had Grimspace!  Not cool.

  4. I'm curious about Silver Borne and Blood & Ice. I've heard good things, but I'm always a bit scared to try adult books in case I hate them! (I know, I know - I *am* an adult, what's wrong with me?!)

Now, when you say you might be getting a job on the continent (which, yay, 'cause I am still looking for a job and it's not fun!), which continent is this? Somewhere with a Waterstones?

Anyway, have fun, good luck, enjoy, happy reading etc... :)

  5. Oooo, you found Silver Borne at a second hand shop?? You lucky thing you!

Ok... I feel stupid asking this, but.. what is "the continent"? Because as far as I knew the UK was part of a Continent? (and yes, I just had to confirm with my husband that Europe is a continent because it's early in the morning and my brain doesn't like to work - ha!) As there are rather a few continents out there (like the one I am in! North America!) I have to ask you to narrow it down. I am not "up" on the Awesome UK Lingo you people have. ;)

oo, just noticed Jenny had a similar question and I don't feel so daft. Heh.

  6. @Jenny and Cat! - Am I the only one who calls mainland Europe "the continent"? I swear I've heard other people use it as I couldn't have made it up... *ponders* England is, after all, an island - which in my opinion accounts for it's desire to over run the world.

Anyhow, the job is in Switzerland. Which is likely to be devoid of cheap english-language books! Although maybe I shouldn't judge too soon, as I saw a copy of Before I Fall on sale at the Madrid airport last week. Apparently English YA is taking over the woooooorld.

  8. Sweet haul - I've atucally read all of them apart from Blood and ice which is sitting on my tbr pile- spooky! Howling at the moon and Silver Borne are great - and Dresden rocks! :-)

I call the rest of Europe the Continent too - well, we are an island! ;-)

  9. @Mel - First off - THANK GOD I am not the only one who calls the rest of Europe the Continent. I was starting to think I'd gone mad.

Secondly, it is kinda spooky that you have/read all of these! I am glad to hear Howling at the Moon is good - I was a bit hesitant when I bought it, but then figured £2 was worth the risk.

  11. I've never heard of any of these books except the Kushiel one. However, spending that little on so many books is an amazing deal!
    Happy reading!
