Cover Alert! The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

I've just discovered the US cover for the second book in the Darkness Rising series by Kelley Armstrong, and I am loving it!  I was not overly keen on the US cover to the first in this trilogy, The Gathering (which I loved, by the way), but with this book, I am starting to come round.  I know Kelley plans on introducing Derek and Chloe into this trilogy, and I can only hope that that happens in book 2!

The Calling (Darkness Rising #2) by Kelley Armstrong
April 2012 - Goodreads

Maya Delaney’s paw-print birthmark is the sign of what she truly is—a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly anyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now, Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they’re kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home. Plentiful action and romance in this second installment in the Darkness Rising series will keep readers enthralled to the very last page!

Now I am extremely eager to find out what the UK publishers will come up with!

  1. Definitely prefer this cover!! I haven't read The Gathering yet but I do want to. Thanks for sharing =]

    The Cait Files

  2. Was not really impressed with the first book, but do to the extreme cliffhanger ending, I will probably read this one. I just want to know if certian people survive (was going to say then didn't want to spoil it for someone else..LOL). I think the cover is okay, but could be cooler. I have never been a big fan of covers that just put a persons face on it.

  3. @Cait - I ADORED The Gathering, although it wasn't quite as good as her first trilogy! You must read it. :)

@Anon - I know what you mean about face-only covers. I can't say I'm much of a fan either, but I think this one is a step up from The Gathering cover.

  4. After reading your amazing review of The Gathering and immediately getting it on audio, I am really wanting this second book right now. It cannot come fast enough for me.

  5. I didn't like the US cover for The Gathering so I got the UK cover caused I loved that one. I hope I love the UK cover for The Calling just as much because although this cover is an improvement over the first its still too generic for my liking.

  6. Oh my, that is gorgeous!! I liked the cover for the first one - it was pretty. This one really is better though!

  7. Wow! I have only a few more pages left to read of the gathering but it's an excellent book. Maya looks great on the cover but this girl's eyes look kind of scary! The covers ok. Anyone agree with me about the eyes?
