In My Mailbox (Mar. 14th, 2010)

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren (inspired by Alea of Pop Culture Junkie) and explores the content of your mailbox!

This was going to be a slow week - but I'm afraid a 3 for 2 deal at Waterstones got the best of me... shameful, I know.  :)

Two books this week for The Book Depository - both of which came with lovely customer-designed bookmarks.  Twenty winners were selected, and have now been sent out in books across the world.  Take a look at the Winners Post at Bookdepository.  I had to include my favourite bookmark - which I fortunately received this week.  Those three birds you see to your left are feature on the bookmark by Jehanne Silva-Freimane from Latvia.  I just think it is hysterical and literary - awesome combination!

On to this week's stash!

I got two YA Paranormal books this week.  Blue Moon by Alyson Noel has just been released here in the UK.  I liked, but did not love, the first in The Immortals Series, Evermore.  It's paranormal hero, Damen, was a serious let down.  Hopefully he will improve in this book!

I also got a copy of Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz - this series is only now being released in the UK, but has gotten a ton of publicity since its release.  I somewhat sceptical that I will enjoy this book - the Gossip Girl similarities are not something I like - but I will try to keep an open mind!

From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris joins my Sookie Stackhouse TBR pile.  It is the eighth in the series, but I have only finished 4 of the books!  I am not sure if I like the covers that feature characters from True Blood, but whatever gets people reading her series.  As much as I enjoy the True Blood TV series - the books are very different!

Angels of the Deep by Kirby Crow is a urban fantasy book mixed with some romance.    It is supposed to be very, very dark - which the cover definitely enforces.  Kudos to cover artist Analise Dubner for the great design.  It is as stunning in real life as I had imagined it.  ♥

So, how was your week?

  2. I haven't read Alyson Noel's books but Nevermore did get some negative reviews. I hope the next book is a vast improvement. I enjoyed the Blue Bloods series but they aren't for everyone. I love the Sookie Stackhouse books but I don't like the T.V. show and all its changes. I am eagerly awaiting Dead in the Family which is published this May in the States. I hope you enjoy all your books. Thank you for sharing the picture of your bookmark. I love it!

Here is what's in my mailbox.

  3. @Sherrie - Thanks! I was hoping by cunningly mentioning the awesome bookmarks, people will start using thebookdepository more. Freebies are such a treat!

@Christina T - Not sure if I would recommend Noel's series, but I am reading it none the less. The Sookie series - on the other hand - is amazing, and it is nice to hear it still has fans 8 books on! Whenever I watch True Blood, I try to think of it separately from the books... it's the only way I can enjoy it without going mad!

  5. Great selection - I have 8 Sookie books in my TBR pile, I got the box set for Christmas but haven't found time to read any of them yet LOL. I'll be interested to see what you think of Blue Moon (I still have Evermore on my TBR pile too LOL) & Blue Bloods :o)

  6. I went to Charlaine Harris's London signing this week. It was fab. I have only read one Sookie book but I do want to read more of the series. I actually really want to read Blue Bloods even though I am overwhelmed by the amaount of vampire fiction out there right now. I've heard it is a guilty pleasure but I'm still keen. Anyway, happy reading!

  7. I got Blue Bloods this week too and also fell victim to the 3 for 2 at Waterstones. Actually I thought I didn't do TOO bad, I was trying to decide between 4 books I really wanted and so almost bought 6! I quite liked Evermore, have Blue Moon to read still.
